Cornwallis wins rugby re-match

The Year 10 rugby team from Cornwallis came out triumphant in a re-match with NLL.

It was a slow start with a lot of drop ball and scrum after scrum, but after 10 minutes nerves settled and it was the start of the end for NLL.

Tries came from: James Taylor (2), Luke Graham (2), Sam Wheelan and Ben Horton with a conversion from James Taylor.

Enthralling visit to the Big Apple

Forty five sixth form students from Cornwallis Academy spent five days in New York checking out the sights and lapping up the culture.

Famous landmarks visited included Times Square, the Empire State Building, Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero and Central Park where many went ice-skating.

Spending money quickly disappeared too after visits to Macey’s, Bloomingdales and shopping malls.

English teacher, Sam Cox, who joined pupils in New York said: "The students found it an exciting yet memorable experience. They were particularly excited when they saw Grand Central Station as they recognised it from the movie 'I Am Legend' starring Will Smith. They also enjoyed their daily guided tours by jetsetter Mr Hewett, who regularly visits America. Many Yr 12s have already signed up for next year’s trip so places are going fast."

Pupils have no fear film making

IT was lights, camera, action for a group of Cornwallis Academy students who spent two days shooting their own films as part of a media and film studies project.

The Year 12 pupils went on location to the Swattenden Centre in Cranbrook where their mission was to produce an original short film in 36 hours.

The crash course included team building activities, workshops on camera work, plot writing and storyboarding. Students were then let loose with cameras to start filming.

Both groups went for the horror theme and after capturing enough material, embarked on the arduous task of editing, which took many hours.

The final results were a great achievement for all pupils though, who sat back and viewed each other’s work during a screening.

Media teacher, Mr Neil Masters, said: "The students developed a range of valuable skills and experiences that will help them immeasurably with their Media and Film coursework. Their understanding and knowledge of film making and its processes is much more advanced than before the trip and they conducted themselves impeccably."

Get your independence with Freedom Pass

PUPILS aged 11 to 16 can now apply for a Kent Freedom Pass offering unlimited travel on buses throughout the borough for just £50.

The scheme is designed to ease congestion on roads by getting more young people to use public transport when travelling to and from school.

This will also reduce pollution, frees up parents’ time during rush hours and gives young people complete travel freedom. Pupils can apply for their passes from June.

Five stars for Cornwallis catering

The catering team is dedicated to providing the best in terms of quality, price and nutritional value for our students and staff."
