Where are Volcanoes and Earthquakes located?
 
     
 

Lesson Objective:

  • To understand the causes of earthquake and volcanic activity
  • To be able to use latitude and longitude to plot earthquakes and volcanoes.
 
     
 

Starter:

Can you draw and label a diagram of the layers of the Earth - see how much you can remember from last lesson.

 
     
 

The Earth's tectonic plates

The Earth's crust is divided into continental plates.

Movement along the plate margins can result in earthquakes and / or volcanic eruptions.

 
     
 

In this lesson your teacher will teach you how to use longitude and latitude.

You will then plot the location of the earth's volcanoes and earthquakes, and look to see if there are any patterns.

You will need to use this information sheet to plot the earthquakes and volcanoes onto a map.

Then you need to write a simple explanation to show what you have learnt.
