- Harold Godwineson defeated Harald Hardraada at the Battle of Stamford Bridge (No- not Chelsea’s football ground!).
- Harold Godwineson then fought William of Normandy in the Battle of Hastings and lost.
- William was crowned king on Christmas Day 1066.

So how did he manage to defeat Harold and gain power in England? You are now going to find out the reasons why William won the Battle of Hastings. |

1. Your teacher will show a clip (about 20mins) of The Battle of Hastings War Walks video. You need to look for details about Why William won. (Think about tactics, weapons, advantages and so on.) |
