  Your first task

Complete the activities in the worksheet Voting on Issues. It asks you to choose an issue that you are interested in and to make a speech to persuade other people to vote for your issue also.

After you have made your speeches take a class vote on the most persuasive speech.

  Political Parties

When you were listening to other people speaking you may have agreed with some of the things they were saying, and you might also have noticed that some of their important issues were linked to yours.

People who share ideas about the way our country should be ruled, and the issues which are most important, often work together. They form Political Parties.

The three main political parties in Britain are

  • Labour
  • Conservative
  • Liberal Democrats

Study this Diagram of the Electoral Process to understand how our government is elected.

Now research the three main political parties. Make a short PPT showing

  • the logo of each party
  • the leaders
  • how many MPs they have
  • some of their main policies
