Regional Crime Rates

Lesson Objectives:

To understand how crime rates differ over the UK.
To map this data and analyse it.

Starter: Do the Crime? Do the time!
Match the offences below to the sentence you think they would be given.
Shoplifting - second offence	life sentence
Vandalism	discharged
Murder	community sentencing (tagged / unpaid work)
Class A Drug trafficking	3 years
DOmestic burglary	7 years
Possession of a weapon	fine
Grievous bodily harm	5 years

1. Open the document 'Regional Crime Hotspots'. You will need to use the data on the first page to produce a location map showing crime rates (use colour and the map on the 3rd page of the worksheet.)

2. Now you should analyse the data by answering the questions on the 2nd page of the worksheet. You will need to make links between population density (how many people that live in an area) and the rate of crime in that area.
