- Task 1
-
Use the following website to find out the difference between a food chain and a food web.
www.bbc.co.ukIn a word document titled “energy transfer in a food chain” explain how energy is transferred along these links, does the energy decrease or increase, why does this happen.
Use pictures from the internet to create your own food web and describe the energy transfer. This can be done either on computer or using scissors and glue.
Make sure you understand the different trophic levels as well.
Ask your teacher for a selection of animal cards. Your challenge is to arrange these into as many food chains and webs as you can. 0-5 chains is ok, 6-10 is good but 11-15 is excellent!
Now that you understand how food chains work and energy is transferred, you need to research how toxins are transferred through a food chain. You could use the example of DDT – what does it stand for and why was it a problem? Add this to the end of your word document with a title “toxins through food chains”.
