- Have a look at the pictures of fresh/canned food around the room, examine each picture and describe if it is being preserved and how. Write your ideas in a Powerpoint titled “preservation”.
- One person from your table is to present the groups ideas to the class.
- Ask your teacher about a practical to see the effects of preserving food e.g. food in fridge compared to food left out in sunlight, pickling in vinegar. You will look at the results in a weeks time (lesson 1 next section)
- Ask your teacher if you can do the Pasteurising milk practical
- Compare fresh milk, 7 day milk and unpasterised milk. Compare colour, smell and microbe content with a few drops of methylene blue
- Have a look at the Rotting food video clip
- Think of why you are advised to drink bottled water on holiday abroad, be prepared to share this with the class.
- Ask your teacher about carrying out the Water purification practical
