Vacancies

By 2010, Maidstone’s first two academies will be completely transformed, offering new buildings, enhanced 21st century curriculums and outstanding facilities for pupils.Construction work on these state-of-the art buildings for New Line Learning Academy in Loose and Cornwallis Academy in Linton begins in November and will cost £62m.Facilities such as learning plazas, extended vocational centers, pperforming arts theatres and outdoor performance arenas are all in the pipeline. There are also plans for music/art studios, hi-tech specialist rooms and exceptional sporting facilities.

Both academies have their own specialisms. NLL Academy’s is in business, enterprise and vocational studies and its 1050 students enjoy a vast range of opportunities at its Boughton Lane campus which is spread over 17.6 hectares. To help pupils obtain skills for life there are nine vocational courses operating on site and a thriving farm which youngsters have access to before and after lessons. NLL Academy has produced 100% success in vocational courses such as childcare, business studies and travel and tourism. In addition, strong links have been established with companies as diverse as Microsoft, Chelsea Football Club and Thomson Holidays. Extensive contacts have been built up across the world too, in countries such as China, Sweden, Germany and America.

Cornwallis Academy holds its specialism in technology and science and spans across 13 hectares at Hubbards Lane. Again, there is a real focus on students obtaining valuable skills to help them in their careers, with strong links already established with the business world so they can achieve their goals. There is also a vocational centre used extensively by all 1630 students and thriving sixth form offering 41 courses. These include media studies, film studies, photography, physics, art, childcare, psychology and government and politics and 75% of sixth form students go on to university.In addition, both academies employ exceptional teaching staff with outstanding qualifications to ensure pupils gain the best standard of education possible. Continuous training is also provided for teachers to help raise standards and enable pupils to reach their maximum potential.Highly skilled, motivated and caring teaching staff are another key feature at NLL Academy and a mentoring model is currently being pioneered with Yale University to assist students in improving their social and emotional skills.
