Introduction

By 2011 Maidstone's first two academies will be rebuilt offering state-of-the-art facilities and an outstanding education for young people living in the borough.

Contractor Carillion will be constructing the new builds at both sites – New Line Learning Academy at Boughton Lane, Loose and Cornwallis Academy at Hubbards Lane, Linton.

Carillion has already built over 30 new secondary schools and currently delivers facilities management services to over 17,000 students across the UK.

Both projects will be managed from Carillion's regional office at West Malling, employing local resource. The architect behind both schemes is Jestico & Whiles and Marishal Thompson is the environmental consultant.

Building work started at NLL Academy on 5 January 2009 while construction of the Cornwallis Academy new build commenced during the summer break of the same year.
