Annual OAP Party
New Line Learning Academy hosted its 49th annual OAP Christmas party this year.
As a way of giving back to the community, NLL extended an invitation to local OAPs so that they may enjoy a Christmas party almost completely run by Year 9 students. The Christmas party has proven to be extremely popular over the years, with many people attending for over 10 years.
There is always plenty of entertainment during the day, guests were treated to a variety of performances, such as the Tiger Cubs singing ‘Santa clause is coming to town’, a snippet from this year’s pantomime performance of Treasure Island, and a host of musical performances from the very talented music students at NLL.
This was not the only entertainment on offer, the OAPs had the opportunity to win a multitude of prizes in an array of competitions, including a raffle, the newly introduced Christmas Quiz and of course, everyone’s favourite, bingo. Massive congratulations to the ‘Old Codgers’ who were the first team to win our new Christmas Quiz!
Besides entertainment, guests were offered a delicious
Christmas roast dinner which was served to them by the Year 9 Catering team. Alongside the lunch, coffee/tea and biscuits were available.
When asked about their time at the event, our OAP’s had an overwhelmingly positive response.
Moriaen from Senacre, who has been attending the event for three years, said “The children do such a wonderful job throughout the day; they're so polite. Everyone contributes a massive amount of effort towards the entertainment and it's always fun to be a part of”.
Joe, who has been attending for five years, was very impressed with this year’s event, stating “I really enjoyed the pantomime this year, the children really gave it their all. The Tiger Cubs were also fantastic with their singing”.
Mr Minshull reprised his role as Master of Ceremonies for the 10th year running, delivering his charm and wit as he so usually does. When asked about this years OAP party, Mr Minshull said “I really enjoy these events, the day is fantastic all round and everybody wants to be involved. The entertainment is always spectacular; we have had some really talented singers perform this year. I can’t wait to do it all again next year”.
NLL wishes to say a special thank you to all of the staff and students who volunteered to make the event possible, and to Mrs Startup for organising the event.
