On the 25th of September, the pupils and staff at NLL celebrated the ‘European day of Languages’. First run in 2001, the EDOL aims to promote the rich linguistic diversity of Europe and raise awareness of the importance of lifelong language learning for everyone. It was set up by the Council of Europe.
Throughout their day pupils were involved in a variety of activities with a European flavour. In English the pupils wrote a pen pal letter to pupils at a school in Spain, a link that will continue and see our pupils corresponding about life in England with a Spanish counterpart.
In Maths pupils studied the geometric patterns of the Alhambra in Granada, Spain, then had a go at creating their own versions of the world famous patterns. Meanwhile in Art and Design pupils designed a T-Shirt for the European Day of Languages competition, the winning design is to be a featured on next years shirt.
Without a doubt the pupils favourite part of the day was being able to purchase Churros at lunch time, a delicious Spanish desert that went down very well.
