On Friday 27 November Head Teacher of NLL Academy, Guy Hewett, attended the Pride of Maidstone Awards ceremony at Maidstone Town Hall where he received an award on behalf of the school.
The academy was nominated for the award by former student Charlie Denyer who suffered with a rare form of cancer while studying for his GCSEs at NLL.
Charlie wanted NLL pupils and staff to be recognised for the ongoing support he and his family were given while he battled cancer and for the many fundraising events that were organised in his honour.
Even with all the treatment he endured and the lengthy period he was unable to attend school, Charlie still managed to gain nine GCSEs and has now successfully beaten his illness. He's also now studying for a Public Services diploma at Mid Kent College and one day hopes to join the police force.
Mr Hewett was delighted to accept the award from the Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Peter Parvin, at the event. This will now take pride of place in the school reception alongside the many other awards the academy has now received.
***The Pride of Maidstone Awards is organised each year by the Kent Messenger newspaper and Maidstone Borough Council to recognise people who have made a valuable contribution to the community.
