What is Business, Enterprise & Vocational Studies?

What is Business and Enterprise?

Business is the world of making money or more accurately generating profit. If you imagine that businesses are like engines, we know that there are many different types of engines. They are used for different outcomes using different parts and fuel e.g. jet, 2 stroke, electric, outboard, petrol etc...

In Business Studies we examine why businesses are established and what they are designed to achieve. What makes one business different to another type of business, how do they operate and what makes them successful. Business studies, in essence, is about understanding how a business functions and how it is able to sell a product or service for more than it costs to produce it, therefore generating profit.

Enterprise focuses on developing skills, attitudes and knowledge in three areas:

* Enterprise capability - innovation, creativity, risk management, risk taking, a ‘can-do' attitude and a drive to make things happen

* Financial literacy - the ability to manage one's own finances and to become questioning and informed consumers of financial services

* Business and economic understanding - the ability to understand the business context

What is Vocational?

Vocational education is a form of education in which students are provided with practical skills which will allow them to engage in careers which involve manual or practical abilities.
