Thursday 28th November - Year 7 & 8 Football
NLL FOOTIE SUCCESS!
Year 7 and 8 attended the Maidstone Football fixtures this Thursday 28th November at Maplesden, winning three matches and losing one. Well done to the girls who continue to represent the school and teachers so well!
Here are all 16 girls warming up with captain Jess Brislee leading the warm up.
Tuesday 26th November - Year 7 & 8 Boy's Handball
“#1 Maidstone School”
The Year 7 and 8 Handball team went to Aylesford school to compete in the district tournament, with a chance to represent the school at the County Games in January.
The boys having never played handball started off well and took an early lead against MNS, some good shot stopping from Harley in goal ensured that we maintained the lead for large periods of the game, but he was beaten late in the game. The boys did well to hold off and keep the draw.
In the second game the boys come into their own and developed very quickly, some fine shooting from Wayne Crouch enabled us to take the lead and some quick passing from Sonny and Jayden created several more chances. Harrison and Wayne added to the scoring - 3-0 NLL.
The third game was our biggest challenge; Trinity school had height and power as their advantaged. They were able to take a early lead. NLL's quick passing and counter-attacking play allowed us to get back into the game. Unfortunately even with some solid goalkeeping and fantastic defending from Shay and Thomas, the height and power of Trinity was too much.
In our final game the boys were went out eager to make a mends for their previous loss. Wayne, again quick on the break, was able to score and take the lead for NLL. Soon after Harrison doubled the lead. The boys kept pushing for a third but great defending from Aylesford meant they remained a threat, securing a goal late on to bring about a nervy end to the game. Despite the nerves, NLL got the victory, bringing their tournament to close.
2nd Place Overall
NLL 1 – 1 Maplesden Noakes
NLL 3 – 0 Malling
NLL 1 – 3 Trinity
NLL 2 – 1 Aylesford
Tuesday 26th November - Year 7 Football
Year 7 travel to Norwich
New Line Learning 0 - 4 Langley School
The Year 7 footballers travelled 3 hours for their last 32 fixture against the independent Langley School.
The game started with Langley School applying pressure on the back 3 of NLL. The team held firm and ensured they sent a clear message of intent with solid defending and fast counter-attacking football. After first 5 minutes NLL settled and were able to start showing the quality that they possessed. Langley's pressure soon broke through and they took a 1-0 lead. William Steel had a 20-yard rocket just sail wide as NLL kept the pressure on the back 3 of Langley school. With 10 minutes left of the first half their centre midfielder weaved through the NLL defence and slotted away to make 2-0. HT 0-2.
The second half started with NLL on top, Sonny Jackson proving key passes and tackles from midfield. He showed his class with several runs through the Langley defence, but was unable to make any of his chances count. This combined with Adam Hatters wall like performance kept Langley at arms length. NLL were pilling the pressure but to no avail. A set piece from Langley saw a scrappy goal mouth scramble bundle in to make 3-0 and put the game just out of reach for NLL. Ethan Roberts and Wayne Crouch’s effort were right till the final whistle were superb in tracking back and playing out from the back to still cause Langley problems. As NLL Pushed to get the goal that they so rightly deserved Langley broke again and a driven shot slid past Nathan to make 4-0.
A massive credit to the boys must be made as they played with real heart and passion. They not only did themselves justice in this game but they did New Line Learning extremely proud, by showing the resilience and determination that we as a school thrive on.
Tuesday 19th November - Year 7 Girl's Handball
Two teams of year 7s played at the Maidstone Schools Handball tournament held at Maplesden Noakes School on Tuesday.
We had an amazing victory for the NLL A team. They are now the Maidstone Schools Handball Champions and are in the final of the Kent School Games event which will be held at Medway Park on Friday 7th February 2020.
The A team girls were phenomenal and did not disappoint throughout, they won every game they played and were crowned the champions after only having one practice session here at NLL last Wednesday. The victory was ours after four tough games fought out between ourselves (NLL B), Maplesden (A and B) and The Malling school. Praise must go to the strikers Evie, Honey and Emma who were so strong in attack scoring 21 goals between them. The three defensive players Ellie, Sakshi and Lacey all held off the opposition well whilst Aaricia Dingwall was a superstar in goal and saved many shots.
The B team played well and scored 8 goals in total, only losing by a small margin, drawing two games and losing two. Players were captain Alanis Barnardo Ellie Gravenell, Mia Towle, Isabella Garrett-Olguin, Alanna Morris, Kyra Wilkinson, and Katie Roberts.
Wednesday 6th November - Year 7 Scholars
The Year 7 Scholars played in their second round of the English Schools Cup yesterday afternoon.
The fixture was set at home against a hungry Spires Academy team. The games started with New Line Learning on the back foot and Spires being able to break and create several chances, to which no score was added. After a short period of pressure New Line Learning settled into the game and began to show their class and a goal from Oliver Roswell put us ahead!
Soon after our dominance began to show, the scholars dazzled the opposition with quality passing and dribbling in good areas. The second goal was soon added by a wonder strike from Wayne Crouch, a right footed strike from outside the box which nestled into the top right corner, 2-0. Sonny Jackson soon added with another screamer from 20 yards, into the bottom corner, 3-0 first half!
Spires showed spirit and determination throughout the second half and our Man of the match for the back was Adam Hatter, he played superbly to ensure that Spires tenacious strikers rarely got chances. He remained composed on the ball and played out from the back allowing us to retain possession and develop many dangerous counter attacks.
Lincoln Whitnell provided assists for Jake Barnden and Leighton Seago Page from the right hand side, he showed great pace with runs into the flanks and delivered great crosses into the box, 5-0 and New Line Learning we’re running riot! Several more chances went missing until the a final goal from Wayne Crouch finished off a spectacular victory for the year 7 scholars.
New Line Learning 6 - 0 Spires

Thursday 3rd October - Year 7 & 8 Girl's Football
Girl's football season began at Maplesden Noakes School where our Year 7 & 8 girls football team took on the hosting school and Cornwallis Academy.
The girls did us proud as they played with passion and intensity, enjoying themselves out on the pitch and building a really good team spirit.
Our A team came away undefeated, winning one game and drawing the other two. During their win, Jessica Brislee (captain) scored a brilliant shot from the half-way line to wrap up the win and secure the team's first victory of the season.
Year 7 & 8's B team put on brave performances in both games they played, but unfortunately luck wasn't with them.
We are extremely proud of our Year 7 & 8 team and are looking forward to a promising season of girls football for Key Stage 3. Everyone put in fantastic effort at our first tournament as a team, let the training for the next fixtures in two weeks’ time commence!

Wednesday 2nd October - Year 7 Netball
Netball season has begun for New Line Learning's Year 7 Girls and what a beginning we've had.
Our A team started the season off strongly with a convincing victory. Everyone played really well, looking for space and varying their passes, they took the lead with Sakshi scoring the first few goals, Honey was quick to add to the tally, both girls were on point and when they had an opportunity, they scored. NLL sports captain and captain of the team, Evie, was strong and played her best in central position, pulling the team together and motivating them to ‘mark-up!’. Playing alongside Evie, Honey and Sakshi was Emma-Lea who proved unstoppable, a real asset to the team.
Unfortunately the second game involving our B team did not go our way, but the performances from Alanna in central role and captain Isabella in goal defence were exceptional. Well done also goes to Lacey, Ellie-Louise, Ellie, Katie, Grace and Lucy who joined them. The team played very well, embracing the challenge. Most of the B team had never played Netball, before joining NLL, and with this in mind, the girls played with spirit and enthusiasm. They did not take losing badly, actually the complete opposite, they were buzzing!
Complete teams and results below:
A Team - Evie Agaen-Boswell (captain), Honey Earle, Emma-Lea Mitchell, Aricia Ashour, Kyra Wilkinson, and Kanada Barnes:
Win - NLL 9-3 CWS
B Team - Alanna Morris, Lacey Barton, Isabella Garrettrolguin, Ellie-Louise Blyth, Ellie Gravenell, Katie Roberts, Grace Boswell, Lucy Palmer.
Congratulations must go to our year 7’s in their first fixture of the year, NLL with a 9 goal victory against Cornwallis!
Special mentions must go to the players of the match, for the A team Sakshi Aryal and for the B team Alanna Morris.
We look forward to our year 7 tournament next Wednesday where both teams will play the other Maidstone schools at St Simon’s Stock.
