Home Learning
The aims of the schools home learning policy are:
- to reinforce knowledge that pupils have acquired in the classroom, or to prepare them for future content that they will see in lessons.
- to develop pupils’ independent study skills, equipping them to revise effectively.
- to develop pupils’ ability to manage their time effectively.
- to foster a culture of accountability and ambition in our pupils.
- to develop pupils’ work ethic.
How is home learning accessed and what is expected?
All home learning will be set on our EduLink system, allowing both pupils and parents access to the tasks. Where work is not linked to another platform (for example, Sparx), pupils should submit their completed home learning to their teachers to review in the manner specified on EduLink.

What are the expectations of pupils?
- All set home learning should be completed on time.
- Where necessary, pupils should seek support from the home learning clinic after school or at lunch, or from their classroom teacher should they encounter any difficulties with completion.
- Work submitted should be the pupil’s own.
- Pupils who do not complete assigned tasks will be supported to catch up in our home learning clinic after school and may receive a sanction should they not complete the set work.
What support can parents/carers give?
- Establish a routine with your child. Decide when the tasks will be completed and where will best support your child to complete them effectively. A reminder that the Academy runs a home learning clinic in the library immediately after the school day ends. The library is also open over lunch time for pupils to access.
- Monitor your child’s EduLink to gain an understanding of the tasks they have been set.
- Praise your child’s completion of high-quality home learning.
How does the Academy reward efforts with home learning?
- All pupils who complete a piece of home learning will receive 5 reward points.
- There will be a weekly prize draw for pupils who have completed home learning in core subjects.
- Pupils regularly completing home learning will be eligible for entry into our termly prize draw.
Staff Expectations
- Where staff are setting home learning on a platform that does not automatically assess the pupils, staff are expected to provide brief feedback on completed tasks.
- Staff must mark the home learning as complete on Edulink to support parents/carers with monitoring their child’s hand in and completion of home learning and for tracking purposes. This should be done regardless of whether another platform is used for home learning.
- 5 reward points must be logged on Edulink for every completed piece of home learning.
- Pupils who have completed home learning should be acknowledged in class to support in raising the profile of home learning.
