Personal Development Pathways

At New Line Learning, personal development is at the heart of everything we do. Every week throughout the academic year, students take part in our exciting Personal Development Pathways programme, designed to help them discover new interests, develop lifelong skills, and build confidence both inside and outside the classroom.

Our pathways provide students with unique opportunities to challenge themselves, work collaboratively, explore their passions, and develop the key skills needed for future success. Whether through physical activity, creativity, leadership, wellbeing, or community engagement, every pathway is carefully designed to support the development of well-rounded, resilient, and ambitious young people.

Our PHYSICAL Pathways

Students can develop teamwork, leadership, resilience, fitness, and independence through a range of active and practical experiences including Forest School, Food and Cookery, Elite Sport, and the Football Academy.

From learning outdoor survival and teamwork skills in Forest School to developing healthy lifestyles and practical life skills through cookery, students are encouraged to challenge themselves and grow in confidence. Elite Sport and Football Academy pathways allow students to further develop discipline, commitment, communication, and sporting excellence while representing the school with pride.

These experiences promote positive wellbeing, perseverance, and self-belief while encouraging students to remain active, engaged, and motivated.

Our MENTAL Pathways

Our Mental Pathways encourage creativity, focus, wellbeing, and personal expression through activities such as Creative Writing, Mindfulness, Craft Club, Games Club, Personal Finance, and Art.

Students are given opportunities to develop imagination, problem-solving, emotional wellbeing, and independence while exploring new hobbies and interests. Mindfulness sessions help students manage stress and build resilience, while Personal Finance supports the development of important life skills that will benefit students in the future.

Creative pathways also allow students to express themselves confidently, think critically, and develop a positive sense of identity through artistic and imaginative experiences.

Our SOCIAL Pathways

Our Social Pathways help students strengthen communication, leadership, teamwork, empathy, and community awareness through experiences including Debate Club, School Hub, Tiger Reading, Nursery Support, Nurture, Language Ambassadors, Ancient History, and Community Support.

Students are encouraged to collaborate with others, share ideas confidently, support younger students, and contribute positively to the wider school community. These opportunities help students build meaningful relationships, develop leadership qualities, and grow into respectful and responsible young people.

Through participation in social pathways, students gain confidence in speaking, listening, mentoring, and teamwork while learning the importance of kindness, inclusion, and community engagement.

Our Year-Long Pathways

Students can also take part in exciting year-long pathways including School of Excellence, Gillingham Football Academy, Eco School, and Duke of Edinburgh.

These programmes provide students with exceptional opportunities to develop long-term commitment, resilience, leadership, and ambition. Whether working towards Duke of Edinburgh awards, promoting sustainability through Eco School, or developing elite sporting potential, students are encouraged to set goals, challenge themselves, and achieve their full potential.

The year-long pathways help students build independence, responsibility, confidence, and aspiration while creating memorable experiences that prepare them for future success both academically and personally.

Our Personal Development Pathways are a hugely important part of our school culture. They allow students to explore opportunities beyond the classroom, develop valuable life skills, broaden their experiences, and discover talents and interests that inspire them for the future. Above all, the programme helps every student to believe in themselves, achieve their goals, and become confident, well-rounded members of the school community.
