It was the 50th anniversary for New Line Learning Academy’s annual OAP party this December, so you know we had to make it extra special.
As a way of giving back to the community, NLL extended an invitation to local OAPs so that they may enjoy a Christmas party almost completely run by Year 9 students. The Christmas party has proven to be extremely popular over the years, with many people attending for over a decade.
There is always plenty of entertainment during the day, guests were treated to a variety of performances, such as the Tiger Cubs singing Christmas carols, a small teaser from this year’s pantomime of Aladdin, and a host of musical performances from the very talented music students at NLL.
This was not the only entertainment on offer, the OAPs had the opportunity to win a multitude of prizes in an array of competitions, including a raffle, the newly introduced Christmas Quiz and of course, everyone’s favourite, bingo.
Besides entertainment, guests were offered a delicious Christmas roast dinner which was served to them by the Year 9 Catering team. Alongside the lunch, coffee/tea and biscuits were available.
When asked about their time at our Christmas party, many OAPs mentioned how excited they were for it and that it’s one of their favourite times of the year.
Mr Minshull reprised his role as Master of Ceremonies for the 11th year running, producing his usual enthusiasm . When asked about this years OAP party, Mr Minshull said “I really enjoy these events, the day is fantastic all round and everybody wants to be involved. The entertainment is always spectacular; we have had some really talented singers perform this year. I can’t wait to do it all again next year”.
NLL wishes to say a special thank you to all of the staff and students who volunteered to make the event possible, and to Mrs Startup for organising the event.
