Educational Visits
At our school, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. Educational visits, enrichment opportunities, and memorable experiences play a vital role in developing confident, ambitious, and well-rounded young people. These opportunities allow students to apply their learning in real-world settings, develop important life skills, broaden their horizons, and create lasting memories with their peers.
Every trip and experience is carefully planned to support both the curriculum and students’ personal development. Through participation, students develop resilience, teamwork, communication, independence, leadership, confidence, and cultural awareness — all of which prepare them for future education, employment, and life beyond school.
Performing Arts
This year, students within Performing Arts have experienced a range of professional theatre productions including The Lion King, Blood Brothers, 2:22, Six, and Hercules. These experiences provide students with a unique opportunity to see live performance at a professional standard, helping to bring classroom learning to life.
By watching live theatre, students deepen their understanding of acting, staging, choreography, lighting, costume, music, and storytelling techniques that are studied within the Drama and Performing Arts curriculum. Students are encouraged to analyse performances critically, evaluate creative decisions, and explore how emotion, character, and atmosphere are created on stage.
Beyond the curriculum, theatre visits help students build cultural awareness, creativity, imagination, and confidence. Many students gain inspiration for their own performances and creative work, while others develop a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Experiencing live productions also supports emotional development, empathy, and communication skills as students engage with different themes, stories, and perspectives.
Humanities
The Humanities department has offered students a range of exciting opportunities this year, including a residential trip to Berlin, Geography fieldwork experiences, and the upcoming Pompeii trip planned for 2026/27.
The Berlin residential provides students with the chance to explore significant historical sites and deepen their understanding of key historical events studied within the curriculum. Students experience history first-hand, helping them to develop critical thinking, empathy, and a greater understanding of how historical events continue to shape the modern world.
Geography fieldwork allows students to apply classroom learning to real environments, helping them develop investigative skills, data collection techniques, analysis, and evaluation. Through practical experiences, students gain a deeper understanding of physical and human geography while developing teamwork and problem-solving skills.
The planned Pompeii visit will offer students an incredible opportunity to experience ancient history first-hand. By exploring archaeological sites and learning about Roman civilisation, students will gain a richer understanding of historical life, culture, and the impact of natural disasters.
Humanities trips help students become curious, reflective, and globally aware learners while encouraging independence, resilience, organisation, and confidence in unfamiliar environments.
Physical Education (PE)
Physical Education plays a central role in school life, and students have had the opportunity to participate in weekly fixtures across football, netball, basketball, athletics, rounders, and softball throughout the year. Students have also attended the London Basketball Finals and completed Duke of Edinburgh Bronze and Silver expeditions.
Competitive sport allows students to develop teamwork, discipline, leadership, communication, and resilience while promoting healthy lifestyles and positive wellbeing. Representing the school also helps students build confidence, commitment, and pride within the school community.
The London Basketball Finals gave students the opportunity to experience elite-level competition, inspiring aspiration and motivation within sport.
The Duke of Edinburgh expeditions provide students with some of the most valuable personal development experiences available. Through planning routes, carrying equipment, working collaboratively, and overcoming physical and mental challenges, students develop independence, resilience, problem-solving skills, perseverance, and leadership. These experiences encourage students to step outside of their comfort zones and develop confidence that supports them both academically and personally.
Maths
Students have participated in the Maths Challenge and the Axiom Maths Festival this year, providing opportunities to explore mathematics in exciting and engaging ways beyond the classroom.
These experiences encourage students to think creatively, solve problems collaboratively, and apply mathematical knowledge in unfamiliar situations. Students develop resilience, logical reasoning, analytical thinking, and perseverance while building confidence within the subject.
Participating in enrichment activities also helps students recognise the importance of mathematics in everyday life and future careers, while promoting aspiration and enjoyment within the subject area.
Science
Students participated in the Science and Technology Challenge Day, where they worked collaboratively to solve scientific and engineering-based problems through practical investigation and experimentation.
The experience directly supported the Science curriculum by encouraging students to apply scientific knowledge, investigate hypotheses, and evaluate outcomes. Students developed critical thinking, communication, teamwork, and innovation skills while learning how science and technology influence the wider world.
Challenge-based activities also help students build confidence in practical work and encourage curiosity, creativity, and aspiration within STEM-related subjects and careers.
Art
Art students have visited the Tate Modern and Folkestone Gallery this year, giving them the opportunity to experience professional artwork and exhibitions first-hand.
These visits support the Art curriculum by exposing students to a wide range of artistic styles, techniques, media, and cultural influences. Students are encouraged to observe, analyse, and interpret artwork while developing inspiration for their own creative projects.
Experiencing art outside of the classroom helps students develop creativity, imagination, cultural understanding, and critical thinking. It also encourages students to explore self-expression and appreciate the importance of creativity within society.
