World Book Day: A Celebration Of Reading
World Book Day was celebrated in style this year, with every subject across the school delivering bespoke lessons inspired by literature from around the world. The day highlighted how books can enrich learning in every area of the curriculum and encouraged students to explore new stories, ideas and perspectives.
In French, students discovered the adventures of Tintin while exploring the vibrant world of bandes dessinées, learning about the importance of graphic storytelling in French-speaking cultures. Spanish lessons focused on the iconic comic character Mafalda, whose witty observations and sharp sociopolitical commentary sparked thoughtful discussion among students.
Elsewhere, Geography students studied ‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’, learning about innovation, resilience and life in Malawi. Meanwhile, History and English lessons drew on ‘Of Mice and Men’, using the novel to deepen students’ understanding of life during the Great Depression.
Across the school, students saw how powerful stories can illuminate history, culture and global issues. World Book Day proved a wonderful reminder that reading opens doors—not only to imagination, but to understanding the wider world.
